4 Watershed Environmental Education Events!

The Wheatley River Improvement Group & the Hunter-ClydeWatershed Group,  making up the team working for local environmental education, have had a busy spring with the planning of three bilingual environmental education events as well as participating in one other in a neighbouring watershed.

With the help of  volunteers from the Wildlife Division & Forestry Division of the PEI Dept. of Environment, Energy and Forestry, Island Nature Trust, the PEI Salmon Federation, the Sierra Club, PEI Model Forest Network Partnership and BBEMA our majour spring event, the 2011 Environmental Fun Day, will take place on Friday, June 3rd.  Alternating between the two watersheds, this year’s fun day will talke place at the beautiful Campbell’s Pond in New Glasgow where 6 stations and 6 activities will be arranged in and around the water.

From “Critter Dipping”,  investigating invertabrates and pond life with Island Nature Trust’s ED Jackie Waddell,  electro-fishing, with biologits Allie MacLennan from DEEF and the Sierra Club’s Jen O’Neil, learinga bout salmon migration with Todd Dupuis from the Salmon Federation and fly tying with volunteer Gerry Blacquiere, the students will, no doubt, enjoy learing from these and other nature related activities in their own backyard/watershed.

NOTE:  Our extra special thanks to Stephane Blanchard of the Conceil Acadien de Rustico, who has been such a friend to our watershed groups as we strive to provide quality environmental education en française.  Stephane has provided translations and delivered presentations helping us improve the standard of our environmental education to the french language students of L’école Saint Augustin and Gulfshore School.
