While those of us on the ground may have the privileged of being up close and personal with the variety of wildlife living around our watershed, some of us don’t get the chance or time to take advantage of our surroundings. Here’s a few shots of the local scenery from this early summer! Please share your Wheatley River nature experiences in the comments section.
- Brook Trout young of the year. Itty bitty, but so much potential!
- Osprey Preening above Rackham’s Pond
- Osprey nest a reflection of what’s lying around in our watershed
- Nesting box that had held fledgling tree swallows (ie, they’ve fledged!)
- Handsome Red Winged BlackBird
- Lush grass and reeds surrounding the stream flowing into Rackham’s Pond
- Purple Finch (who really isn’t purple at all)
- Red winged black bird bobbing on a branch
- Tadpoles! The small duck’s unlimited ponds to the rear of Rackham’s were absolutely teeming with frog spawn in the early summer, and from the sounds of it, a lot of them survived metamorphosis!
