In November 2025, WRIG received $5000 from the PEI Wildlife Conservation Fund to help improve the wildlife viewing opportunities at Rackham’s Community Pond. A group of hard-working volunteers came out in early December to disassemble and remove the old rotten structure to make way for a new one!
Over the winter, students from Bluefield High School have been working to build a new structure for us… and it is now complete!
The new covered structure will be installed this Spring at Rackham’s Community Pond, raised up above the potential flooding level, alongside the riparian vegetation. Other things to watch for: new signage, a boot scrubber to help mitigate the spread of invasive plant species, and a citizen science photo monitoring station! Thank you PEI Wildlife Conservation Fund!
