What are the issues facing today’s woodlots and watersheds?  How can we use our woodlots while also improving them for wildlife? At our sixth Winter Woodlot Tour, bring the whole family and take part in snowshoeing, sleigh rides, and many interactive interpretive events. This year’s event promises the usual attractions as well as a host of new exhibits, with staff from PEI Forests, Fish & Wildlife on hand to help answer your questions regarding forest management and winter wildlife.

This will be an opportunity to learn how to make the most of your woodlot, as well as a chance for the whole family to learn more about Island forests and watersheds and the importance of our natural environment to the Island’s economy and rural communities. There is no charge to attend this special event and free hot cider will be served.

WHEATLEY RIVER Canada 150 Picnic – Saturday, July 15, 2017 2-4 p.m.

The Wheatley River 4-H Club is hosting a free family Canada 150 picnic at the Wheatley River Hall (Rackhams’s Lane) and invite youth in the area, as well as newcomers, and their families to experience an old-time picnic and fun afternoon with old-fashioned games, a display of 4-H projects and project-related hands-on activities such as learning about rabbits, trying cake decorating, or making a craft. A small display of historical artifacts, especially as they pertain to rural areas, is planned, along with musical entertainment. The hall is a short stroll away from Rackham’s Pond, and the Wheatley River Improvement Group (WRIG) is planning a nature scavenger hunt. All welcome. Rain or Shine. For more information, email wheatleyriver4h@hotmail.com or call 902 -213-0597.

This local 4-H Canada 150 celebration is made possible by 4-H Canada’s Connecting Canadians Fund, and is supported by the Government of Canada and generous partners, TransCanada and McDonald’s Canada.
